Maggie . Ian’s Wedding@The Ritz-Carlton

Maggie and Ian’s wedding day is one that I will always remember fondly. It was an early day for our team, as we had to arrive at the bride’s home at 6:30 a.m. It was a gloomy morning where the skies were grey with a slight drizzle, but I’m sure you won’t know this by looking at the pictures that turned out to be warm and well-lit!

If I could describe Maggie and Ian’s wedding day with one phrase, it would be “when east meets west”. As Ian lives in a New Territories village, after the Chinese tradition of picking up the bride, the ceremony then moved on to an ancestral shrine which was an unforgettable experience. Even though it wasn’t my first time photographing wedding ceremonies at such shrines, the joyful atmosphere and environment just fuelled everyone with excitement The newlyweds had to follow many Chinese traditions which took nearly 30 minutes to complete, and the firecrackers lit afterwards was a perfect end to the ceremony. It definitely fills one with awe knowing that such ancient Chinese traditions are still preserved and performed even today!

The western part of their big day started in the afternoon, when they had a lovely banquet at the luxurious function hall of Ritz Carlton. The gorgeous decorations and arrangements elevated the venue and created a grand yet elegant environment and atmosphere. Even though it was a long day for our team, being up and running from early in the morning to midnight, we still had great fun as every wedding has its own special elements, and the ability to pay attention to details and to capture them on film is what I truly enjoy and take pride in.
