I’ve realized lately that newlyweds prefer half day or simpler weddings maybe because its more comfortable and relaxing for them, and it wouldn’t take up too much time. It seems like this kind of trend has been going on lately and this was what Donna and Angus chose as well.

The wedding was held at 1881 Hullett house, a former Marine Police Headquarters Compound and also one of the four oldest government buildings in Hong Kong. The building itself exudes history and character, so there was no need for more complex decorations but just simple DIY items that complement the atmosphere just right.

Donna and Angus decided to have an intimate wedding, inviting only their very close family and friends. Despite it being a simple and small one, it still touched the hearts of everyone especially when Angus talked about his relationship with Donna, about how they met and how they kept their relationship going strong.

This was one of my favorites weddings, and I felt like there was no need for big shows or extravagant settings because it’s always the little things that count. At the end of the day, all that matters is the love and memories created.

Patricia and Jackson’s wedding took place at Four Seasons hotel, a place that would always spark good memories upon me, as it is one of the frequent wedding locations chosen by couples.

The newlyweds exchanged their vows at the foyer of the hotel where the warm sunshine seeped through the high ceiling windows, melting the hearts of friends and families witnessing their special moment. Joyous tears were captured when Patricia and Jackson recited their vows, and when the ceremony started. They walked down the aisle in applauses and best wishes from their loved ones, whom I’m sure were feeling so much joy for the two of them as they join their lives in marriage!

A buffet luncheon was then organized for friends in the afternoon, and at the same venue at night, they held a banquet dinner for relatives and families. Even though both banquets were organized at the same spot, there was a contrast in the atmosphere as the afternoon luncheon was a more relaxed one while the dinner had more of a majestic ambiance.

The highlight of the night would be the couple’s first dance, where Patricia wore an eye catching red gown and gained the attention of the crowd immediately.

Last but not least, I would like to congratulate Patricia and Jackson again, and best wishes to the both of you and to the love that brought you two together!

My philosophy in wedding photography has always been to capture the raw, magical moments between newlyweds so that their pictures can tell a story, and that they can relive those beautiful memories many years later. I believe that couples nowadays prefer to have photographers who are observant and will pick out the perfect moments to capture.

Miho and Kelvin’s wedding ceremony took place at the Peninsula and the afternoon section was mainly focused on the preparations, for example the bride getting her make up done in the room and taking pictures with her family. As I have previously mentioned, I always believe that wedding photographers shouldn’t spend too much time taking different portraits of the couples as that can be done at the pre-wedding session, and the wedding day photos should be focused more on the interactions between the guests and the newlyweds. To me, it is more important to capture these once in a lifetime moments on film rather than staging them.

The special day was a simple one but I really enjoyed doing this shoot as the rundown wasn’t too rushed and it didn’t require us to go to too many locations, which would not only be tiring for us but also the newlyweds. It also created a relaxing atmosphere for us to work in, as I was able to observe and capture all the tiny precious moments. From the ROM till the banquet in the evening, there was no need for surprises or extravagant performances as all the guests were able to enjoy the night thoroughly. Instead it was the simple speeches given by Miho’s father and Kelvin that touched the hearts of the people in the room.

Last but not least, I wish Miho and Kelvin a beautiful married life ahead and to many happy beginnings!

I’m really grateful that many couples come to me not only for their pre-wedding photos, but also for their wedding day as well! One of these couples are Tracy and David, and we’ve only just taken the pre-wedding photos less than three months before the wedding. I think this really helps us achieve the final product as a team as we have had the chance to spend a day together beforehand at the pre-wedding, which gives me a better idea of what they are looking for, while they also become familiar with my work and photography style. With this foundation of trust, they would not have to worry as much about how their wedding photos will turn out and can truly enjoy their big day.

Every wedding is unique, and the background and personalities of each couple is different, which makes the photos from each wedding truly one of a kind. I can’t wait to share these pictures with you because I always have certain thoughts after each wedding that I would like to write down and share with all of you.

I’m not the kind of wedding photographer who asks bridesmaids and groomsmen to take many gimmicky pictures, or the couple to pose and take portraits like a pre-wedding shoot. What I do and enjoy the most is to be observant and pick out what is worth capturing in each wedding. At Tracy’s wedding, one moment that really caught my eye and warmed my heart was when Tracy’s grandmother gave Tracy a red packet. Her grandmother said “Today is your big day, Grandma is going to give you a red packet”, while she replied a simple “Thank you, Grandma”. Although this is just a simple exchange, I immediately felt how precious this moment was and captured it from afar.

It’s interesting how time flies and it seems like only yesterday when our elders would give us red packets at birthdays or Chinese New Year when we were young. Even though a red packet may not seem like a lot, as many of our elders do not have a lot of savings, they hope a red packet can be a token of their blessing and what’s important is not the money inside, but the love, care and meaning that comes with it. That is why I found this moment so meaningful not only to me, but more importantly, to the bride.

Even though photos like this are probably not worthy of some great photography award, it is one that I believe the bride will appreciate and cherish, and it is truly a precious moment that I know she would want to look back upon in the years to come. These are the most natural and heartfelt moments that are most worth capturing in a wedding, and that is what I enjoy the most.

Many couples shy away from having their pre-wedding photos taken during the summer because of the heat, especially in such a humid place like Hong Kong. They worry about their make-up melting, or being trapped in big gowns and tuxedoes under the sun. In spite of these challenges, Tracy and David’s pre-wedding photos were taken this August as their wedding day was coming soon in three months. August was our best choice as there wouldn’t be enough time for the after-effects and album production otherwise.

What comes with the heat was a clear sky and bright sunlight, a beautiful weather which was perfect for sunset photos. I always enjoy taking photos with couples at sunset for the simple, warm and romantic feeling it offers. As the saying goes, “a sunset is the sun’s fiery kiss to the night”. Indeed, sunset is the perfect time to capture the most romantic and magical moments.

Despite Hong Kong being a concrete jungle, there are actually many places where you can get a good view of the gorgeous sunset. Lantau Island was the choice for Tracy and David this time. What’s great about the sunset at Lantau Island is that you can witness the sun coming down slowly all the way down to the water, which creates a warm, timeless backdrop for pre-wedding photos.

I’m really grateful that Tracy and David has trusted me so much along the way. Although the entire process was challenging to our team because of the hot weather, we had a great time and I am so glad that they are happy with the final result!
