Chanlaam & Jim’s Pre-wedding – The Tai O Experience

Chan Laam and Jim’s prewedding was quite a special one, and I can’t wait to share the experience with all of you! One interesting thing in particular was that the wedding gown prepared by the groom was actually a family heirloom, with over 30 years of history. That is why we took some pictures with the bride at the studio instead of outdoors to ensure we won’t damage the gown.

Actually, I rarely take wedding pictures at the studio because I prefer having full interaction with the couple outdoors and capture the environment following the flow of the day. However, even though studio shoots are more passive, we still ended up with many beautiful and elegant pictures.

One thing I really enjoy about being a wedding photographer is that the couples would sometimes bring me to special locations that I’ve never been before. This time, Chan Laam and Jim brought me to the Tai O fishing village, which requires a travelling time of 45 minutes even from Lantau Island. Fortunately, we found transport directly from the city, which saved us a lot of hassle!

The shoot took place at the Tai O Heritage Hotel, which used to be the Tai O Police Station back in 1902 and was named a Grade II historic building by the Antiquities Advisory Board. Although the hotel isn’t very big, being a 9-room boutique hotel, the British colonial architecture gave the pictures a classic and romantic feel.

Another good thing about taking pictures at a small hotel is that it saves a lot of time as we were able to efficiently take pictures at all the planned locations in the hotel. There also weren’t many people or tourists around, which makes it better for pre-wedding shoots as it may be difficult for couples to relax and engage fully into the shoot if there were many people around.

This is certainly a new experience for me and I enjoyed every second of it. Many interesting things also happened behind the scenes, such as how we had to take a boat and cross the bridge over the river. Take a look at the pictures from this special day and share this experience with me!
